Backbone of silicate glass

is SiO2, or silica.

In pure SiO2, every silicon (Si) atom bonds to four oxygen atoms, and every oxygen bonds to 2 Si atoms.

The four oxygen define a regular tetrahedron with Si in the centre.

These SiO2 tetrahedra share corners since a tetrahedron is a 3 dimentional object, these linkages extend in three dimentions, resulting a three dimensional Network of linked SiO2 tetrahedra.

Other oxides that forms 2D and 3D networks are

GeO2, P2O5, and B2O3.

They are often called Network Formers

Elements that have low ionic charge +1 or +2 and high number of bonds (4 or more) are called Network Modifiers (e.g. Li2O, Na2O, K2O, MgO, CaO, and SrO).

Quantum Glass

Quantum Glass is a next-generation filtration media engineered from pure glass.

By creating multiple microscopic networks inside the glass and carefully removing one of them, we form a perfectly uniform nanoporous structure. These pores — ranging from 2 to 250 nm — dramatically increase surface area, enhance catalytic activity, and enable superior water purification performance compared to traditional sand or glass filter media.

FAQs

What is quantum glass?

Quantum Glass is a selectively leached, nano-architected glass featuring an interconnected network of 2–250 nm pores. This structure provides high adsorption capacity, enhanced catalytic behavior, and superior particle filtration.

The surface is treated with Ag⁺, Cu²⁺, and nano-TiO₂, enabling continuous antimicrobial activity through ion release and photocatalytic oxidation. This multi-functional design prevents biofilm formation, suppresses algae, and neutralizes bacteria and viruses, redefining the performance boundaries of modern filtration media.

How does it work?

Quantum Glass combines nanoscale physical filtration with active antimicrobial chemistry. The material is formed through phase separation to create a uniform nanoporous network (2–250 nm) that maximizes adsorption and particle capture.

The surface is functionalized with Ag⁺ (silver ions), Cu²⁺ (copper ions), and nano-TiO₂, which provide broad-spectrum antimicrobial action through ion release and photocatalytic oxidation. This multi-modal system inhibits membrane/biofilm formation, suppresses algae growth, and neutralizes bacteria and viruses within the filtration bed, ensuring superior purification performance and long-term filter hygiene.

When will it be available?

We are currently building the factory and expect commercialisation to begin soon. Subscribe for updates.

Is it safe to use?

Yes, quantum glass is designed to be completely safe for water treatment.

Can it replace existing filters?

Yes. Quantum Glass can directly replace the media in most existing filters that use sand, quartz, or regular glass.

There’s no need to change the filter housing or equipment — simply remove the old media and load Quantum Glass. It’s fully compatible with standard pool, industrial, and commercial filtration systems.
